Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, residents of Kumar Mohalla, Walrama in Mawer area of Handwara staged a strong protest against the authorities over the persistent failure to provide them with potable water for several years.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesters, mostly women, blocked the Handwara-Kupwara road, disrupting traffic for hours. They raised slogans against the authorities and accused them of negligence and apathy.<\/p>\n

The residents told media persons that they have been deprived of drinking water for over a decade despite repeated appeals to the concerned officials. \u201cWe are forced to pay Rs 500 every other day to tractor owners to fetch water from 10 kilometres away,\u201d a protester said.<\/p>\n

The protesters urged the authorities to take immediate measures to restore regular water supply to the area. The demonstration later ended peacefully.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
