His detention, alongside ordinary citizens, reflects a broader pattern of targeting Muslims for exercising constitutional rights.<\/p>\n<p>Voices of dissent emerged even from within the BJP. Dr Jahanzaib Sirwal, a senior Muslim leader from occupied Jammu and Kashmir, publicly condemned the UP government on October 3, 2025. Sirwal criticized the widespread detentions, unfair FIRs, and inflammatory rhetoric, warning that he would resign if the party failed to uphold religious freedom. His stance underscored the betrayal of Article 25 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion, and highlighted the growing tension between faith and political allegiance under Hindutva politics.<\/p>\n<p>Other Muslim scholars and leaders also expressed concerns. Mufti Zahid Ali Khan, a retired theology professor from Aligarh Muslim University, highlighted the climate of fear imposed on the community, while Maulana Abdul Hameed Nomani warned of the dangers posed by rising Hindutva nationalism to India\u2019s pluralistic identity.
