Dispur: A suspected explosion occurred on the railway line between Kolkarachar and Salah Kati East stations in Sivasagar district of the restive northeastern Indian state of Assam, causing severe damage to the railway line and severely affecting train traffic.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, several incidents of sabotage on railway lines have taken place in Assam, so far, in the current month, for which responsibility is being attributed either to the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) or its affiliates. These incidents reflect the growing separatism, political unrest and the continuing injustices perpetrated by New Delhi in India\u2019s northeastern states.<\/p>\n
The recent explosion on the railway line in Sivasagar district is a clear sign of the failure of state control over the ongoing insurgency and separatism in the state. The attack is apparently an act of the separatist party ULFA or its militant factions, which has been fighting for decades against the oppression, economic plunder and displacement of the local population by the Indian state and is demanding separation from India.<\/p>\n
ULFA, which was founded in Sivasagar itself in 1979, was actually a reaction against India’s colonial policies. Despite the plunder of Assam’s natural resources such as oil, coal, tea and timber, the local people have been pushed into the darkness of poverty, unemployment and political marginalization.<\/p>\n
Brutal military operations, forced arrests and human rights violations have further fuelled the resistance rather than suppressing it.<\/p>\n
Decades of political disobedience have transformed ULFA’s armed struggle into a formal movement for autonomy and separation from India.<\/p>\n
Since the 1990s, Assam has seen numerous violent incidents, including targeted attacks on rail infrastructure aimed at disrupting the exploitative Indian state machinery. The Indian government brands ULFA as a terrorist group, yet its heavy-handed policies have marginalized Assam\u2019s people, leading to cycles of violence and unrest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
