Srinagar: The National Conference led government in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has revealed that 631 outsiders have purchased land since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, raising concerns about a deliberate effort by the BJP-led Indian government to alter the territory\u2019s demographic composition permanently.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, official data provided in response to unstarred government question No. 286, tabled by NC legislator Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed in the IIOJK Assembly, shows that non-locals have acquired land worth over Rs 130 crore across the occupied territory.<\/p>\n
The breakdown of the land acquisitions reveals that in the Jammu region, 378 outsiders have purchased 212 kanal, 13 marla, and 128 square feet of land, valued at approximately Rs 90.48 crore. Meanwhile, in the Kashmir Valley, 253 non-residents have bought 173 kanal and 7 marla of land, amounting to Rs 39.49 crore.<\/p>\n
This disclosure marks the latest confirmation of land transfers to non-locals following the controversial constitutional changes of August 5, 2019, which allowed outsiders to own property in IIOJK.<\/p>\n
Observers note that since the revocation of the territory\u2019s special status, lakhs of Indian Hindus have been granted domicile certificates, leading many to believe that the actual number of land acquisitions may be far higher than the official figures suggest.
