Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly criticized the Modi government for imposing Hindi in educational and administrative sectors, urging New Delhi to prioritize the use of regional languages, particularly Kannada, a classical language of the state, as the medium of instruction in schools.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, in his address on the state\u2019s foundation day, today, Siddaramaiah said that the Modi government was treating Karnataka unfairly and neglecting Kannada, while imposing Hindi. He called on the people to stand united against any attempts to undermine the state’s linguistic and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
“There are continuous attempts to impose Hindi. Grants are given for the development of Hindi and Sanskrit, while the rest of the country’s languages are being neglected.” “Injustice is being done to the classical language Kannada by denying it adequate funds for its growth,” Siddaramaiah said.<\/p>\n
“English and Hindi are weakening the talent of our children. Children in developed nations think, learn, and dream in their mother tongue, but here the situation is completely different,” Siddaramaiah said.<\/p>\n
The Karnataka CM further expressed concern over the Modi government’s stance on language policy, stating that Karnataka was being subjected to “step-motherly treatment” in favor of promoting Hindi over regional languages. He called for a legal framework that would make mother tongues the primary medium of instruction in schools across the country, pointing to the neglect of many regional languages in the national education system. The Modi govt should ensure education is imparted through mother tongues, rather than pushing Hindi, he said.<\/p>\n
