According to Kashmir Media Service, President Asif Ali Zardari addressing a ceremony in Gilgit to mark 78th Independence Day of Gilgit-Baltistan from Dogra Rule said on November 1, 1947, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan achieved independence by making great sacrifices.<\/p>\n
He said in 1947, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan themselves got independence and joined Pakistan. He said, “I pay tribute to all of you, you joined Pakistan on the basis of religion. Today I am very happy to see your love.”<\/p>\n
He condemned India\u2019s heinous actions in IIOJK. He said Kashmiris have suffered prolonged oppression and that the situation has reached the brink of genocide.<\/p>\n
President Zardari strongly condemned India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and called upon the international community to play its role in resolving the lingering Kashmir dispute in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.<\/p>\n
The President said Gilgit-Baltistan has immense natural resources as electricity can be generated from the water here, adding it has also tourism opportunities. He said all the facilities of education and health have been provided to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and more steps will be taken for its progress and development.<\/p>\n
A trumpet was played upon the President’s arrival at the ceremony, and the President was welcomed by the Governor and Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. Upon his arrival at the ceremony, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan thanked the President.<\/p>\n
President Zardari Strongly condemning the usurper occupation, he called on the international community to play its role in resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.<\/p>\n
The President was welcomed by the Governor and Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. The President inspected the parade and the G-B Governor presented the President with a traditional cap at the Independence Day ceremony.<\/p>\n
