{"id":186992,"date":"2025-11-01T20:14:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T15:14:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/?p=186992"},"modified":"2025-11-01T20:14:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T15:14:42","slug":"2000-detained-in-maharashtras-jalgaon-as-muslims-organise-protest-against-waqf-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/2025\/11\/01\/2000-detained-in-maharashtras-jalgaon-as-muslims-organise-protest-against-waqf-act.html","title":{"rendered":"2,000 detained in Maharashtra\u2019s Jalgaon as Muslims organise protest against Waqf Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-186993\" src=\"https:\/\/kmsnews.org\/kms\/assests\/2025\/11\/ssss.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"367\" height=\"209\" \/>Jalgaon: Thousands of people gathered in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, this week to protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, which Muslim organisations have described as a \u201cblack law\u201d and a \u201cdirect attack on religious freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest, organised by the Tehaffuz Auqaf Committee Jalgaon (Save Waqf Committee), was held under the banner of the \u201cJail Bharo Andolan\u201d, a movement initiated by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).<\/p>\n<p>Despite not receiving police permission, Jalgaon became the first district in India to conduct the full-scale agitation peacefully.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the AIMPLB had attempted a similar protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on October 12, but this time, the call resonated strongly in Maharashtra\u2019s Jalgaon district.<\/p>\n<p>The protest began with a two-hour sit-in, after which nearly 2,000 protesters were detained by police and kept at the Zila Peth police station. They were released later in the evening.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters, organiser Farooq Shaikh said, \u201cWe surrendered to the police voluntarily. This movement involved not only Muslims but people from all communities and political backgrounds who believe in justice, equality, and the Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cJalgaon has peacefully led this national movement.
