This shift reflects strategic autonomy, reduced Indian influence, and a broader regional push toward multi-vector diplomacy and balanced defence relations.

Major General Masudur Rahman will lead a Bangladesh Army team to Rawalpindi for a four-day-long inaugural ‘staff talk’ (Nov 3 to 7), following Pakistan Army’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza’s visit to Dhaka from October 24 to 28.

Maj Gen Mohammad Masudur Rahman will be accompanied by the Adjutant General, a lieutenant colonel, and two majors.

Previously, Lt Gen Hassan was the first and senior-most Bangladesh general to lead a team of officers to Rawalpindi on January 11, 2025.

Since then, at least three separate teams of Pakistan Army officers have visited Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh defence forces are pulling out all stops to forge extensive and intensive ties with the Pakistani military, shaping Bangladesh’s security alignment free from Indian influence.

This reciprocity of moves suggests that the two states are not merely establishing ties on the grounds of shared history and Muslim brotherhood but are also translating it into strategic interests.

According to Chandan Nandy, the main force for the Bangladesh military’s deepening engagement with the Pakistan defence establishment is the Armed Forces Division, which is under the Chief Adviser’s office. This signals a failure of Indian efforts to isolate Pakistan and make it irrelevant in the regional theatre.

The AFD head, Lt Gen Kamrul Hassan, is a votary of not only rebuilding military ties with Pakistan, but he has also been instrumental in pursuing a policy aimed at rapid procurement of defence hardware.

Bangladesh’s renewed defence diplomacy with Pakistan marks a transition toward a multi-vector foreign policy, enhanced sovereignty, and balanced regional partnerships.

Instead of unilateral dependence, the emerging South Asian landscape is moving toward strategic plurality and mutual respect.

Islamabad: Top Pakistani and Bangladeshi officials have resolved to strengthen defence cooperation in all fields.
