According to Kashmir Media Service, Mamdani won with 49.6% of the vote, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent and garnered 41.6%. Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa also contested the election. During the campaign, Mamdani faced fierce opposition from President Donald Trump, who criticized him heavily, labeling him a “communist” and even threatening to cut New York\u2019s federal funding should Mamdani win.<\/p>\n
In the wake of his historic victory, a video of Zahran Mamdani has gone viral on social media. In the video, Mamdani refers to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “killer of Muslims”, linking him to the 2002 Gujarat riots in which hundreds of Muslims were killed. When asked during a public event whether he would share a stage with Modi, Mamdani strongly rejected the idea, citing Modi\u2019s role as Gujarat’s Chief Minister at the time of the massacre. Mamdani further compared Modi to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing both as “war criminals.”<\/p>\n
