Islamabad: Pakistan\u2019s Foreign Office has expressed serious concern over India\u2019s record on nuclear safety and security, highlighting multiple incidents over the past several decades involving the theft and illicit trafficking of sensitive nuclear materials and other radioactive substances.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, in a statement, said that repeated cases of theft of nuclear and unauthorized sale of nuclear and radioactive materials in India expose major lapses in securing its nuclear installations.<\/p>\n
He cited a recent example from last year, when radioactive devices and the highly radioactive element Californium (valued at over $100 million) and reportedly originating from India\u2019s Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), were found available for sale within the country.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson warned that such incidents suggest the presence of an active illicit nuclear market in India for sensitive and dual-use materials, urging the international community to take serious note of these lapses, which pose a grave threat to regional and global security.<\/p>\n
In contrast, Pakistan\u2019s nuclear program, he stressed, operates under a robust command-and-control structure, implements comprehensive export controls, and maintains an unblemished record of compliance with the global non-proliferation regime.<\/p>\n
He added that Pakistan\u2019s stance on nuclear testing has been clear, principled, and consistent. Since conducting nuclear tests in May 1998, Pakistan has supported UN General Assembly resolutions calling for a comprehensive ban on nuclear tests, while India\u2019s repeated abstentions reflect ambiguous and questionable intentions.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson further condemned India\u2019s allegations of \u201cclandestine or illicit nuclear activities\u201d as baseless, malicious, and part of a disinformation campaign aimed at deflecting attention from its own irresponsible practices.
