New Delhi: India’s National Security Advisor and close aide to Narendra Modi, Ajit Doval, has been caught lying after he in a statement in 2014 said that the majority of Indians recruited by Pakistan’s ISI for espionage operations are not Muslims but Hindus.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, in the wake of the November 10 blast near the Red Fort in New Delhi, in which at least 13 people were killed and several injured, a video went viral on social media in which Ajit Doval is clearly saying that among the people recruited by the ISI for espionage in India, there are more Hindus than Muslims.<\/p>\n
If you look at all the cases registered under the Official Secrets Act and the Anti-Espionage Act since 1947, which are more than 4,000, perhaps 20 percent of them would not be Muslims. This video clip is taken from a long video posted by the Australia-India Institute in Melbourne, where Ajit Doval addressed an event titled \u201cThe Challenge of Global Terrorism\u201d on March 11, 2014.<\/p>\n
Today, 11 years later, after the video went viral on social media, CNN News18 in a report said that Ajit Doval spoke to him directly and denied the statement shown in the video, calling it fake. Ajit Doval said that the statement was not about Pakistan’s ISI but about ISIS. Although it is true that Ajit Doval did not mention ISIS in the video, he is clearly saying that historically, Indian Hindus have been recruited in greater numbers for Pakistan’s espionage operations than Muslims. This 35-second clip was widely shared by many people to counter the trend of blaming minorities after the Delhi blasts.<\/p>\n
According to CNN News18, Ajit Doval said such media tools are often used to distort matters related to national security and the clips that are circulating are an attempt to target India’s counter-terrorism narrative.<\/p>\n
Alt News started an investigation to get to the bottom of the statement and found that the video is not fake but real and that Ajit Doval had indeed made this statement.<\/p>\n
Investigation revealed that in a lecture organized by the Australia-India Institute on March 11, 2014 as part of the Global Challenges series, Doval said the number of Hindus recruited in the ISI in India is much higher than that of Muslims.<\/p>\n
