Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has issued a new 100-rupee banknote featuring a map that includes Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura \u2014 territories that India claims as its own.<\/p>\n
According to the Kashmir Media Service, Nepal has consistently maintained that Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura belong to the country and are not parts of India.<\/p>\n
In 2019\u20132020, the BJP-led Indian government constructed the Lipulekh road, promoting it as part of the Kailash\u2013Mansarovar pilgrimage and subsequently published a new political map showing Kalapani as part of India.<\/p>\n
In response, the Government of Nepal rejected India\u2019s claims, passed a constitutional amendment, and approved a new national map depicting the three regions as part of Nepal.<\/p>\n
Foreign media reports note that Nepal\u2019s new currency note includes Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani, areas that have long been points of contention between Nepal and India. The change has once again contributed to diplomatic tensions between the two neighboring countries.<\/p>\n
Following the approval of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepal has now officially issued the new 100-rupee note. The old map on the reverse side of the note has been replaced with the updated national map.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
