New Delhi: In a move widely criticised as arbitrary and discriminatory, Delhi Police have issued notices to private hospitals across the Indian capital, directing them to submit detailed information on all doctors who obtained medical degrees from abroad \u2014 particularly from Pakistan, Bangladesh, the UAE and China.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, hospital administrations have been asked to furnish the names, qualifications and complete credentials of such doctors, even though they are legally registered to practice in India. The sweeping exercise, observers say, is part of a growing trend in which the Indian authorities discourage overseas education under various pretexts, including \u201csecurity concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officials claim the notices were issued as part of the ongoing investigation into the Red Fort car blast on November 10. Although the probe pertains to a specific terror module, police have broadened the dragnet to target doctors educated abroad \u2014 a move health professionals say unfairly casts suspicion on thousands of qualified practitioners and sends a chilling message to students planning to study overseas.<\/p>\n

Rights advocates and academic analysts point out that such measures are increasingly being used to malign foreign-educated professionals, particularly those who studied in neighbouring countries, creating an atmosphere of distrust around legitimate international degrees. They say linking foreign education to terrorism is not only unjustified but also part of a pattern in which Indian authorities discourage students from leaving the country for affordable or specialised degrees abroad.<\/p>\n
