Kolkata: Indian state West Bengal\u2019s ruling Trinamool Congress has suspended Assembly member Humayun Kabir for announcing plans to rebuild the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad disrict.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Humayun Kabir, a legislator from the Bharatpur Assembly constituency in Murshidabad district, had recently declared that he would construct a Babri Mosque in the Beldanga area of the district, modeled exactly on the one in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, which was destroyed by Hindu extremists in December 1992.<\/p>\n
The Trinamool Congress described Kabir\u2019s statement as a serious violation of party discipline, accusing him of attempting to stoke communal politics. The party statement further said that Kabir was trying to revive the painful memories of the original Babri Mosque demolition in 1992.<\/p>\n
Responding to his suspension, Kabir described it as a “deliberate humiliation” and announced his plan to resign as an MLA and launch a new political outfit on December 22 in Murshidabad. “I will expose the Chief Minister and the TMC over their double standards on secular politics. TMC has been fooling minorities and has a tacit understanding with the RSS-BJP,” he said.<\/p>\n
