He paid glowing tribute to human rights defenders, imprisoned political activists, media professionals, students, writers, and medics working under dangerous conditions worldwide.

Rehmani said the UN’s history was replete with failures in preventing conflicts and protecting human rights in regions such as Kashmir, Palestine, India, Rohingya areas, and Sudan, where millions continue to suffer under political, economic and ethnic oppression.

He described the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir as one of the most distressed in the world, noting that the Modi regime had stripped the territory of its special status and deprived Kashmiris of their right to make laws, communicate with relatives, or even retain their jobs as non-local employees were forcibly pushed into the region.

He said thousands of Kashmiri leaders, media men and activists were languishing in different Indian prisons solely because they were Kashmiri Muslims pursuing a peaceful and lawful struggle for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.

Rehmani pointed out that IIOJK today hosts one of the world’s largest military concentrations—around one million Indian soldiers and paratroopers—despite the fact that only a few thousand troops were required temporarily under the 1949 ceasefire to facilitate a UN-supervised plebiscite. Instead, he said, the territory is suffocated under half a million police and plainclothes personnel monitoring every public activity and private phone conversation, turning Kashmiri society into a “robotic surveillance zone.”

He said senior political leaders and rights defenders have been jailed for decades under draconian laws like the UAPA and PSA. Rehmani listed the following leaders imprisoned for long periods and suffering health issues due to denial of proper medical care:

Khurum Pervez, Human Rights advocate
Mian Abdul Quyoom, senior advocate and first Convener of former Tehreek-e-Hurriyat J&K
Massarat Aalam, Chairman APHC J&K
Shabeer Ahmad Shah, Chairman Democratic Freedom Party
Muhammad Yasin Malik, Chairman JKLF
Syeda Aasiya Andrabi, Chairperson Dukhtaran-e-Millat
Naheed Nasreen, General Secretary Dukhtaran-e-Millat
Fahmeeda Sofi, senior leader Dukhtaran-e-Millat
Muhammad Qasim Faktoo, incarcerated since 1990
Dr. Hameed Fayaz, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami J&K
Naeem Ahmad Khan, Chairman J&K National Front
Ayaz Akber, J&K leader

He added that over 50 members and sympathisers of the J&K People’s Freedom League have been facing fabricated charges under the UAPA and Public Safety Act for the last two decades.

Rehmani said these detentions violate international humanitarian law and are part of the RSS-driven Hindutva agenda aimed at changing the Muslim-majority character of Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed that the only way to reduce tensions in South Asia is to grant the Kashmiri people their UN-mandated right to self-determination.

He urged the international community, including countries and institutions with influence, to play a meaningful role in resolving the Kashmir dispute peacefully, warning that continued inaction could dangerously destabilise the region.

Islamabad: Former Convener of All Parties Hurriyet Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter Muhammad Farooq Rehmani and, has said that the International Human Rights Day has lost its credibility as the UN and major world powers continue to overlook grave abuses perpetrated by oppressive regimes across the globe.
