Kotli: Speakers at a seminar in Kotli, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, strongly condemned India\u2019s blatant violations of human rights in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and its flagrant disregard for international laws through state oppression. They stressed the urgent need to raise global awareness of New Delhi\u2019s atrocities and the ongoing suffering of the Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the seminar titled “Kashmir Conflict: A Human Rights Perspective” was organized by the Department of International Relations at the University of Kotli, in collaboration with the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter. The event saw a large participation of intellectuals, educators, students, and faculty members. It was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Maroof, while the special guest being Ghulam Muhammad Safi, the Convenor of the APHC-AJK.<\/p>\n
In his address, Ghulam Muhammad Safi highlighted that the Kashmir dispute is one that has been formally addressed through resolutions in the United Nations Security Council, with India itself acknowledging these resolutions. He asked, “Why has this dispute not been resolved?” The answer, he stated, is simple: the United Nations has become ineffective and is now being manipulated by powerful nations. This failure has allowed the subjugation of Kashmiris to persist for decades. Safi emphasized that the people and government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir must do everything in their power to support the people in IIOJK, raise awareness of India’s atrocities, and advocate for justice. He also called on Kashmiris worldwide to unite, organize, and amplify their voices more effectively, as they are the true representatives of Kashmir cause.<\/p>\n

In his speech, APHC-AJK General Secretary Advocate Pervez Ahmad Shah condemned India\u2019s actions in IIOJK, describing it as a genocide that flagrantly violates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Charter. He criticized the international community\u2019s silence, which has emboldened India to further escalate its oppression. He warned that India is now planning false flag operations to facilitate the mass killing of Kashmiris and erase their presence entirely from the territory.<\/p>\n
Prominent political and social figure Malik Javed argued that all political, religious, and social groups in Azad Kashmir must come together to create a unified, comprehensive agenda aimed at securing the freedom of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
Professor Dr. Maroof, Vice-Chancellor of the University, thanked the Hurriyat leaders for their visit, acknowledging their continuous sacrifices to keep the Kashmir dispute alive on the global stage. He stressed that Kashmir is not merely a political dispute but a profound humanitarian crisis that the world must address with urgency and seriousness.<\/p>\n

Other speakers noted that the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948, which guarantees every human being the fundamental rights to life, liberty, security, justice, and dignity, without discrimination. The declaration clearly criminalizes oppression, torture, arbitrary detention, and inhuman treatment. The speakers expressed disappointment that despite India\u2019s signature on the United Nations Charter, it has systematically ignored these principles, continuing its widespread human rights violations in IIOJK. They said India is flagrantly violating international laws by engaging in state oppression, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, media censorship, and the trampling of civil liberties in Kashmir.<\/p>\n
The seminar concluded with a renewed commitment to raising the voices of the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir and highlighting their right to self-determination on every international forum. A tribute was also paid to the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir for their sacrifices.<\/p>\n
