New Delhi: The BJP-led Hindutva government of India has reportedly collected illegal party funds from the public under the guise of government welfare schemes such as \u201cBeti Bachao, Beti Padhao\u201d, \u201cKisan Seva\u201d and \u201cSwachh Bharat\u201d.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the prominent Indian portal The Wire reported that donation options for these schemes, launched several years ago, are still available on the BJP\u2019s official Narendra Modi portal (narendramodi.in) and the NaMo App.<\/p>\n
RTI responses to queries filed by a Chennai-based senior journalist B.R. Aravindakshan, who is the news editor of the channel Sathiyam TV, showed that the BJP had no authorization or special permission from the Prime Minister\u2019s Office (PMO) or any central ministry to collect donations for the government schemes.<\/p>\n
Despite this, the BJP ran a fundraising campaign between December 2021 and February 2022 through private platforms, asking contributors to donate funds for Swachh Bharat, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Kisan Seva. Both the website and the app asked donors to choose between one of these three government schemes and list \u201cparty fund\u201d as \u201ccause for donation\u201d while contributing to the BJP.<\/p>\n
Ministries overseeing these schemes have confirmed through RTI responses that none of these platforms were promoted, authorized, or permitted to raise funds for government initiatives.<\/p>\n
