According to Kashmir Media Service, opposition parties strongly condemned the incident, terming it an act of humiliation, misogyny and a violation of the constitutional rights of Muslim women. The controversy erupted after visuals and eyewitness accounts revealed that Nitish Kumar removed the hijab of a female doctor who had arrived to receive her appointment letter at an official function held at the Chief Minister\u2019s Office on Monday.<\/p>\n
The Indian National Congress demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Minister. In a statement posted on X, the party said, \u201cThis is Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Look at his shameless conduct. A female doctor came to receive her appointment letter and he forcibly removed her hijab. This misconduct is unforgivable and he must resign.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) also lashed out at Nitish Kumar, with the party stating that his mental condition had reached a \u201cpitiful state.\u201d RJD spokesperson Ijaz Ahmed said that the Indian Constitution guarantees people of all religions the freedom to follow their religious traditions and practices, which were violated by the Chief Minister\u2019s act.<\/p>\n
The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) termed the move unacceptable and demanded a public apology. In a statement, the party said that if a state Chief Minister could behave in such a manner, it raised serious questions about the safety, dignity and respect of Muslim women in India.<\/p>\n
