\nNew Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) was \u201cgradually being taken over institutionally\u201d by the RSS, while asserting that institutions should be run by knowledge and science, not by any ideology.<\/p>\n
According to\u00a0Kashmir Media Service, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha posted a video on his WhatsApp channel of his recent interaction with the institute students at his office in the Parliament House complex during the winter session.<\/p>\n
\u201cI met with students from the institute at the \u2018Jan Sansad\u2019. They reiterated the same concerns that students and teachers from other educational institutions across the country have been consistently raising. The students explained that the institute is gradually being taken over institutionally by the RSS,\u201d Gandhi said in his post along with the video.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe institute is not just any ordinary institution\u2014it conducts high-level research in statistics, mathematics, economics, data science, computer science, and policymaking, and has produced world-class experts for the country,\u201d the former Congress chief said.<\/p>\n
Academic councils, which should be run by academicians, are now facing bureaucratic and ideological interference, he said.<\/p>\n
The syllabus and research are also being controlled by RSS ideology, he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not educational reform, but a conspiracy to weaken education and institutions so that these institutions can be privatised or their assets sold off. This attack is not just on institutions, but on the country\u2019s intellectual freedom, scientific temperament, and the future of its youth.
