New Delhi : The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has condemned the rising incidents of targeted violence and persecution against Christians in India during Christmas, calling it a “systematic effort to demonise and incite hatred” against the community.<\/p>\n
Accoding to Kashmir Media Service, the group cited over 60 incidents during the Christmas period, including mob violence, vandalism, and institutional complicity.<\/p>\n
In one incident, BJP District Vice-President Anju Bhargava assaulted a visually impaired woman, Safalta Karthik, at a Christmas charity programme in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The APCR has called for independent investigations, police accountability, and prosecution of hate speech by public figures.<\/p>\n
The group has urged the establishment of an independent statutory body to monitor communal violence and ensure impartial investigation.<\/p>\n
Besides, the APCR has made the following recommendations:
\n– Police Accountability: Disciplinary action against officers who failed to intervene or colluded with perpetrators
\n– Hate Speech Prosecution: Prosecute public figures who justify or incite violence against religious minorities
\n– Independent Statutory Body: Establish a body to monitor communal violence and ensure impartial investigation
\n– Human Rights Training: Mandatory training for law enforcement officials
\n– National Framework for Religious Harmony: Guarantee equal protection for all communities<\/p>\n
