Srinagar: The Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has urged India to refrain from using its repressive state apparatus to silence legitimate political voices in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
According to\u00a0Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Srinagar, DFP spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal reiterated the party\u2019s longstanding demand for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. He said the Kashmir dispute derives its legitimacy from both international mandates and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, and cannot be suppressed through coercive tactics such as forcing political leaders to abandon organizational titles after their forums have been banned under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).<\/p>\n
Advocate Iqbal emphasized that the systematic suppression of political expression through intimidation and legal bans only deepens the conflict and undermines prospects for a peaceful and democratic settlement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe continued jailing of political leaders, banning of parties and NGOs, and silencing of dissent show that genuine political movements rooted in popular will cannot be crushed through force,\u201d he said, adding that such measures erode trust and highlight the urgency of resolving the dispute through dialogue, justice, and respect for democratic and human rights principles.<\/p>\n
He warned that peace and stability in the region would remain a distant dream unless the Kashmir dispute is addressed in its historical and political context.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
