Agartala,: In a shocking and violent act in the Agartala city, the capital of India\u2019s Tripura state, a Muslim rickshaw puller was assaulted by a group of Hindutva men. The attackers buried him halfway in sand and attempted to set him on fire in a clear attempt on his life.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the victim, Didar Hussain, a resident of Abhaynagar in Agartala, was attacked near the Gangail Nivedita Club area by a group of four to five men. Hussain, a rickshaw puller by profession, is currently receiving medical treatment after surviving the attack.<\/p>\n
After the assault, Hussain filed a formal complaint at the Durga Chowmuhani Outpost. In his statement, he described how the attackers suddenly blocked his path and brutally assaulted him. \u201cLater, they forcibly pushed me into a pile of sand and tried to kill me by setting me on fire with the clear intention of killing me,\u201d Hussain said in the FIR.<\/p>\n
He went on to say that he sustained serious physical and mental injuries in the attack and survived only after the assailants fled on hearing his screams and shouts.<\/p>\n
A local resident, Habib Ur Rahman, said that Hussain was targeted after being asked his name, which revealed his Muslim identity.<\/p>\n
The attack has triggered widespread outrage in Agartala, with many people taking part in a protest march demanding the immediate arrest of the attackers. Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and TIPRA Motha leader Shah Alam were among those who joined and led the demonstration.<\/p>\n
