Srinagar: Two porters, forcibly employed by Indian armed forces in high-altitude areas of north Kashmir, lost their lives after slipping from a mountain in the Gulmarg sector. The deceased, Lyakat Ahmad Deedar and Riyaz Ahmad Khattana, residents of Chandosa area in Baramulla district, were left without any financial support or assistance from the authorities.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the tragedy has drawn sharp criticism from local leaders over the apathy shown by the Indian military, with families of the deceased receiving no compensation or relief despite the perilous conditions under which the porters were made to work.<\/p>\n

In response, Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, has called for immediate releif for the bereaved families. According to a statement released from jail, Er Rashid called for a clear policy to ensure safety of porters working in hostile conditions.<\/p>\n
