According to Kashmir Media Service, the fire that erupted in the Basooni forward area of the Balakote sector on Monday afternoon spread further on Tuesday toward parts of the Mendhar sector, engulfing stretches of forest and scrubland.<\/p>\n
Officials confirmed that nearly a dozen landmines planted by the Indian Army along the LoC exploded after the advancing flames reached the mined areas. The forward zones along the LoC are heavily mined by Indian forces as part of a wider militarization of the frontier.<\/p>\n
Plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the affected areas as intermittent blasts echoed through the region, causing panic among residents of nearby villages.<\/p>\n
The blaze continues to pose a serious threat to civilian habitations, livestock, and forest wealth, while also complicating the movement of troops deployed in the forward locations.<\/p>\n
With the fire still active on Wednesday, Indian forces intensified patrolling and further strengthened deployment along the LoC.<\/p>\n
