Jammu: Indian police have intensified repressive drive in Reasi district, booking several Kashmiris under the pretext of enforcing tenant verification norms and other so-called legal requirements, as part of New Delhi\u2019s continuing campaign of control and intimidation across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, police teams carried out a verification operation at Daba Morh, where tenants were found residing in a shed owned by Chain Singh, son of Deepti, a resident of Jadsarkote, Udhampur. The police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), criminalising the alleged non-compliance with verification orders.<\/p>\n
In another action along the Mata Vaishno Devi track, police booked a pony operator, Shabbir Khan, a resident of Jandial, Jammu, for operating without a valid registration card. A case was registered against him under the same law.<\/p>\n
Similarly, at Kakryal, police booked Nazir Ahmed, a resident of Kun Kanyala Panthal, Katra, for keeping tenants Sajad Ahmed Dar and his wife Daisy Jaan without what authorities termed \u201cproper verification.\u201d A case was also registered under BNS.<\/p>\n
In yet another case, Onkar Singh, a resident of Chamba Chandwa, Katra, was apprehended under BNS and later penalised by a local court.<\/p>\n
The crackdown was carried out by police officials from Banganga and Kakryal police posts and Police Station Katra under the supervision of senior officers.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh reiterated warnings to landlords, pony operators, and service providers to strictly follow verification norms, threatening strict action in case of any deviation.<\/p>\n
Observers say such drives, frequently launched under security pretexts, have become a routine tool to harass and criminalise ordinary Kashmiris, further tightening the grip of fear and surveillance in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
