\"\"Dispur: The Indian army has been deployed in Assam\u2019s Kokrajhar district following mob violence that left two persons dead and triggered arson and clashes, reportedly between Bodos and Adivasis communities.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian army personnel conducted joint patrols with the district administration in violence-hit of Karigaon and its nearby locations. A flag march was also be conducted by the Army in the area.<\/p>\n

Officials said that the overall situation was under control, and tight security measures have been put in place in Kokrajhar and neighbouring Chirang district. Internet and mobile data services have been suspended in both districts.<\/p>\n

The violence erupted on Monday night after a vehicle carrying three Bodos hit two Adivasi persons at Mansingh Road under Karigaon outpost, a home department official said. The occupants of the vehicle were allegedly beaten up by neighbouring Adivasi villagers, and the vehicle was torched. One person died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries on Tuesday. Three others remain hospitalized.<\/p>\n

Tensions escalated further on Tuesday as members of both communities blocked the highway adjacent to the Karigaon outpost, torched tyres, set a government office on fire and attacked the Karigaon police outpost, the official said.<\/p>\n

Police resorted to baton-charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, leaving several people, including a few police personnel, injured.<\/p>\n

Prohibitory orders have been imposed across Kokrajhar district under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, officials said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
