Lucknow: A Muslim female lawyer was assaulted in Uttar Pradesh\u2019s Hardoi after exposing corruption, raising serious concerns over the safety of whistleblowers and the price of seeking justice in Modi\u2019s India.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, advocate Firdous Jahan said that she and her family were attacked by the husband of a village head and his associates after she filed official complaints exposing corruption. She said the assault was meant as punishment for taking legal action.<\/p>\n
The attack took place in broad daylight as Firdous Jahan was travelling with her family in a car. In her complaint, she said that the village head\u2019s husband, along with several men, surrounded the vehicle, damaged it, and attacked those inside.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was not a personal dispute,\u201d Firdous Jahan said. \u201cI complained about corruption through legal channels. The allegations were checked and found true. After that, the village head\u2019s financial powers were taken away. This attack was a revenge.\u201d She said the inquiry had already led to official action against the village head after departments confirmed wrongdoing. \u201cInstead of accepting the law, they chose violence,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
A video of the attack, now widely shared on social media, shows men using sticks and iron rods to break the car windows. One person is dragged out and beaten by five to seven attackers, while two women are seen trying to shield the victim. Broken glass, a damaged car body, and terrified voices are clearly visible.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were openly threatening us,\u201d Firdous Jahan said. \u201cThey wanted to silence me for speaking the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Locals said the incident caused panic in the area. \u201cIf a lawyer is not safe after following the law, what hope is there for ordinary people?\u201d a resident asked.<\/p>\n
The attack has drawn strong reactions online, with users pointing out that those who expose corruption, especially Muslims, are targeted instead of being protected. Commenting on the incident, social media user Ravish Riaz said, \u201cThis is not just an attack on one woman. It is an attack on the law. When corruption was exposed, power answered with force.\u201d<\/p>\n
No arrests have been made so far. Firdous Jahan has demanded immediate action against all those involved and called on police to ensure the safety of whistleblowers and citizens who speak the truth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
