The visit comes amid an ongoing operation in the snow-bound higher reaches of the Chatroo forest belt, where Indian forces claim to be pursuing a group of mujahideen.

In a statement posted on X, the White Knight Corps said the GOC was briefed on the prevailing situation. He praised troops for their “steadfast resolve” and urged them to remain alert, agile, and mission-ready at all times.

The visit follows a similar inspection by Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma on January 31, who also reviewed the “security grid” in Kishtwar and commended troops engaged in ongoing operations.

Analysts say the back-to-back visits by top Indian army commanders indicate a deliberate attempt to project military assertiveness. They warn that such posturing, particularly in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir, often precedes escalatory actions aimed at diverting attention from India’s internal political crises and international criticism over human rights abuses.

Observers caution that under the pretext of so-called counter-terror operations, India has a history of staging or exaggerating security threats to justify intensified militarization and possible adventurism along the Line of Control or within the occupied territory. They stress that such moves not only endanger regional peace but also further imperil the lives of Kashmiri civilians already living under heavy military siege.

Srinagar: The General Officer Commanding of the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, Lieutenant General P K Mishra, has visited Kishtwar district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and directed troops to remain “vigilant and mission-ready,” a move observers say reflects New Delhi’s increasingly aggressive posture and raises fears of a possible misadventure.
