According to Kashmir Media Service, the Muslim passenger, travelling to Latur in Maharashtra, was assaulted by a group of around 20 Hindutva Hindus for his religious identity on a train halted at Hyderabad. The beatings were based on their religious identity, cap and beard.<\/p>\n
Mohammed Imran was travelling on the Manmad\u2013Kakinada\u2013Shirdi Express when the attack is said to have taken place while the train was halted at Hafeezpet station in Hyderabad, and a video showing him recounting the incident to police officers surfaced on social media on February 11.<\/p>\n
In the video, Imran is heard telling the police officers that he was suddenly lifted and attacked, as he described the assault in distressing terms.<\/p>\n
The Hindutva group had already been involved in a physical altercation inside the train, and he approached them to question why they were beating another man. He stated that he had merely intervened to ask why the individual was being hit, yet the confrontation turned against him as the group began assaulting him instead.<\/p>\n
Imran said that he was targeted after the men noticed his beard and skull cap, and he further said that his visible Muslim identity provoked the attack. He also stated that his friend, who attempted to intervene and protect him, was assaulted during the chaos, thereby intensifying the violence inside the compartment.<\/p>\n
The said attack on a moving train, albeit halted at a station, has raised serious concerns regarding passenger safety, and Imran has maintained that he can identify the assailants to assist investigators in pursuing appropriate legal action.<\/p>\n
The episode comes amid a broader climate in which incidents of hostility against Muslims have been increasingly reported, and critics argue that inflammatory rhetoric in public discourse has contributed to an atmosphere of emboldened aggression.<\/p>\n
Observers have pointed out that even political figures have, at times, shared content perceived as Islamophobic, and they contend that such actions risk normalising prejudice in an already polarised environment.<\/p>\n
As investigations proceed, the incident aboard the Manmad\u2013Kakinada\u2013Shirdi Express stands as yet another instance of identity-based violence.<\/p>\n
“Global Monitor” said the specific targeting of the cap and beard marks this clearly as a hate crime intended to humiliate based on faith. “There is a tragic irony here: Hafiz and his companions were attacked specifically because they chose to be ‘Good Samaritans’ and rescue someone else. Targeting their beard and cap wasn’t just physical violence; it was a deliberate attempt to strip them of their dignity. We cannot let this kind of bigotry become a normalized part of public transit.”<\/p>\n
“A hate crime is bad enough, but a state-sanctioned hate crime is a crisis. The railway employees and the police officers who turned a blind eye must be identified and held accountable. If a beard and a cap are enough to make someone a target for those in uniform, no one is truly safe on that line,” Global Monitor said.<\/p>\n
“It is harrowing enough to hear of a passenger being targeted for their religious identity, but the fact that railway employees were the perpetrators\u2014and the police refused to help\u2014is a total systemic failure.
