United Nations: Pakistan\u2019s Parliamentary Delegation, led by Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, emphasized the need for the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions, calling it essential for lasting peace and stability in South Asia.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the remarks were made during a meeting with UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock on the sidelines of the Annual Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Hearing 2026 at the UN Headquarters in New York.<\/p>\n
While the UNSC resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir remained unimplemented, Gilani said that India has taken further destabilizing actions in unilaterally holding the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, arguing that this unlawful action constituted a blatant violation of the Treaty\u2019s provisions and established principles of customary international law. He said that such actions threaten the lives and livelihoods of over 240 million Pakistanis and set dangerous precedents, particularly at a time when climate stress and water scarcity demand cooperation and strict respect for international agreements.<\/p>\n
Gilani also drew attention to terrorist threats emanating from Afghan soil, citing groups such as TTP, BLA, Al-Qaeda, and ISIL-K, and urged stronger international cooperation to counter cross-border terrorism.<\/p>\n
He underscored that the people of Pakistan strongly support the UN\u2019s mission of promoting international peace and security, sustainable development, and the protection of human rights. He said that at a time of multiple and overlapping global crises, the multilateral system is facing serious challenges, including persistent violations of the UN Charter and the continued non-implementation of long-standing UN Security Council resolutions. Highlighting a broader erosion of adherence to international law and established legal instruments, Gilani warned that such trends undermine the international order.<\/p>\n
UNGA chief Ms. Baerbock expressed condolences over recent terrorist incidents in Pakistan and affirmed the importance of joint efforts against terrorism, while appreciating Pakistan\u2019s constructive role at the United Nations.<\/p>\n
