Bhopal: In a deeply troubling reflection of women\u2019s safety in Modi\u2019s India, approximately 130 women and girls go missing every day in the state of Madhya Pradesh.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the alarming figures were disclosed in the state assembly in response to a question raised by Congress MLA Vikram Bhuria.<\/p>\n
In a written reply, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that between 2020 and January 28, 2026, a total of 274,311 women and girls were reported missing across the state. On average, around 45,000 women and girls disappeared each year. For six consecutive years, nearly 130 women and girls went missing daily, a pattern that raises concerns about systemic failure.<\/p>\n
The government claimed that 235,977 women and children have been traced so far. However, 68,334 women and girls remain unaccounted for, leaving thousands of families in prolonged anguish, uncertain about the fate of their loved ones.<\/p>\n
Year-wise data further highlights the crisis: more than 30,000 women went missing in 2020, 39,000 in 2021, 40,000 in 2023, and 31,000 in 2025. In the current year alone, over 1,000 cases have already been reported. The highest numbers have emerged from major urban centers such as Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain, while several tribal districts have also recorded disturbing trends.<\/p>\n
In his written response, the Chief Minister acknowledged that when thousands of women are missing, it cannot be viewed merely as a law and order issue but reflects a broader institutional failure.
