Lucknow: A Hindutva armed upper-caste Hindus group attacked and mercilessly beat up a Dalit wedding attendees (baraatis) in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Uttar Pradesh state of India.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Hindutva armed group from the Thakur community attacked the wedding procession in Sunana village of Aligarh district The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Jawan police station.<\/p>\n
Pawan Kumar, father of the groom Anish Kumar, reported that the attackers, armed with firearms, swords, sticks, and iron rods, brutally assaulted them and hurled cattiest slurs. He quoted the Thakurs as saying, \u201cHow have you mustered so much courage to take out a wedding procession?\u201d<\/p>\n
The victims have accused the assailants of caste-based violence and the administration of failing to provide adequate protection to Dalits.<\/p>\n
Pawan Kumar stated the complaint lodged with the police has not yet been formally registered. \u201cWe were on our way to the bride\u2019s house, when a group of Thakur men attacked the procession and verbally abused us with cattiest remarks. They challenged us, saying, \u2018How have you gathered so much courage that you are taking out a wedding procession?’\u201d Kumar recounted.<\/p>\n
He further said , \u201cMany of our guests, including the groom, were injured during the attack.”<\/p>\n
The Dalit family said that the men chased and assaulted the baraatis, fired shots into the air, vandalised the DJ system, and stole valuables from the groom. This incident, they noted, happened despite the family having previously sought security from local police due to fears of violence.<\/p>\n
They said all police personnel had left by the time the attack took place, raising significant concerns about administrative preparedness and response.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
