Pandit over her \u201ccasteist\u201d remarks in a recent interview. Among those detained were two office-bearers of the JNU Students\u2019 Union (JNUSU).<\/p>\n<p>Police used lathis and force to stop the students outside the campus, blocking their march and dispersing the protesters. Protesters were calling for a campus free from institutional casteism and opposition to Brahmanical RSS and BJP Hindutva influence.<\/p>\n<p>Students condemned the police action, saying multiple barricades and heavy deployments prevented them from leaving the campus despite a large turnout.<\/p>\n<p>JNUSU President Aditi Mishra, detained during the protest, said in a video statement: \u201cToday, the JNUSU was marching to the Ministry of Education demanding the Rohith Vemula Act, action against the Vice-Chancellor over her casteist statements, and adequate funds for the university. You can see how the administration and the government deployed hundreds of police officers and multiple barricades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The JNU Teachers\u2019 Association (JNUTA) strongly condemned the brutal use of force by Delhi Police against the students. \u201cReports indicate that several students, including women, have been severely injured in the police action, during which even laws prohibiting male police personnel from acting against women were flouted,\u201d the association stated, while demanding the immediate release of the detained students.
