New Delhi: A fresh media report in Canada has established that Indian officials were linked to the 2023 killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Globe and Mail, quoting Canadian national security sources, said that Indian consular staff in Vancouver supplied information that assisted in the assassination. The report even named a specific Indian official, further intensifying diplomatic sensitivities between the two countries.<\/p>\n

The publication of the report coincided with high-level talks between the Prime Ministers of India and Canada aimed at expanding cooperation in trade, energy, defence, critical minerals and security.<\/p>\n

In its official readout, Canada stated that Prime Minister Mark Carney reiterated Ottawa\u2019s resolve to combat transnational repression and address organised criminal networks. India-Canada relations have remained strained since 2023, when then Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau first revealed an Indian link to Nijjar\u2019s killing\u2014an accusation that led to reciprocal diplomatic expulsions and a sharp downturn in bilateral ties.<\/p>\n
