London: Amnesty International has urged Indian authorities to respect the right to peaceful protest in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a right protected under both Indian and international law.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement, Amnesty said, \u201cWhen the government restricts protest for public order, the test is simple: are the measures protecting public order or is dissent being silenced. The right to peaceful protest in Srinagar and across the Kashmir valley must be respected and not suppressed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Amnesty\u2019s call comes in the wake of massive protests that erupted across occupied Jammu and Kashmir following the assassination of Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli strike in Tehran on Saturday. In order to thwart protests, Indian authorities imposed curfew-like restrictions and suspended internet services for several days, besides detaining nearly 800 youths, including some girls, from across IIOJK.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
