Srinagar: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has expressed concern over India’s dependence on the US approval to purchase Russian oil, describing the situation as “unfortunate” and a “tragedy”.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, Abdullah in a statement in Srinagar criticized the US decision to grant India a 30-day waiver to continue buying Russian oil, stating that India should be capable of making independent decisions regarding its energy policies.<\/p>\n

The NC leader emphasized that India is a sovereign country and doesn’t need permission from other nations to make decisions about its energy needs. He recalled the approach of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who advocated for India’s strategic autonomy in international negotiations, including the Indo-US civil nuclear agreement.<\/p>\n
