London: A forthcoming report by the Transnational Law Clinic at King\u2019s College London alleges widespread persecution of Muslims in BJP-governed states of Uttar Pradesh and Assam, India.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the report, prepared by a Panel of Independent International Experts, highlights crimes against humanity, including police “encounter killings”, arbitrary detentions, and discriminatory laws targeting Muslims.<\/p>\n
In Uttar Pradesh, at least six Muslims were killed in police encounters in 2025 alone. The report also documents “bulldozer justice”, where Muslim homes and businesses are demolished, despite being declared unconstitutional by India’s Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
In Assam, the National Register of Citizens process may leave up to two million Bengali-speaking Muslims at risk of losing citizenship. The report links alleged war crimes to large-scale forced evictions, with eight Muslims shot dead by state actors since 2017.<\/p>\n
The report cites a 74% rise in hate speech incidents in 2024, with 1,165 cases, 98.5% targeting Muslims. The US Commission on International Religious Freedom recommends India be designated a “Country of Particular Concern” for six consecutive years.<\/p>\n
The report references international laws, including the ICCPR, CAT, ICERD, and Rome Statute, calling for an independent UN investigation.
