Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a protest demonstration was held in Srinagar against the detention and harassment of Kashmiri students studying at Mewar University in Rajasthan, India.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, people including families of Kashmiri students expressed growing concerns over the safety and discrimination faced by Kashmiri students in India.<\/p>\n
The protesters said that the students from occupied Jammu and Kashmir enrolled in the BSc Nursing programme at the Rajasthan-based were detained for two days after raising questions about the recognition status of their course.<\/p>\n
The protesting families said the students, many of whom are nearing the eighth semester of the four-year programme, had sought clarification from the university administration after learning that the nursing course might not have mandatory approval from the Indian Nursing Council and the Rajasthan Nursing Council.<\/p>\n
They said instead of addressing the students\u2019 concerns, the university administration and authorities detained several students during a peaceful campus protest and kept them in custody for two days.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen our children questioned the authorities about the course approval, they were detained during the protest and treated like criminals. They were mentally harassed,\u201d a protesting father said during the demonstration in Srinagar.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the course is not recognized, the entire future of these students will be destroyed. Four years of study and huge financial expenses will go to waste,\u201d another father said.<\/p>\n
The protesters demanded an immediate investigation into the matter
