A final-year Dalit MBBS student at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rajkot allegedly died by suicide, leaving behind a note accusing fellow students of harassment.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Dalit student, identified as Ratan Meghwal, reportedly jumped in front of a train. In his suicide note, he accused a fellow student, Asmita Sharma, along with four others, of physical assault and prolonged mental harassment.<\/p>\n
In the note, Meghwal stated that he was repeatedly targeted because of his caste identity. He described being humiliated, mistreated, and socially isolated for belonging to a \u201clower caste,\u201d conditions he said pushed him into severe psychological distress.<\/p>\n
The incident has triggered widespread outrage among student groups and civil society activists, who see it as yet another grim reminder of entrenched caste discrimination in India\u2019s academic spaces. Calls are mounting for a transparent and impartial investigation, along with strict accountability for those found responsible.<\/p>\n
Police officials have confirmed the recovery of the note and stated that aninvestigation is underway to verify the allegations and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the student\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
