Jammu: In a move raising serious concerns over privacy and civil liberties, Indian police in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir\u2019s Kathua district have installed GPS-enabled tracking anklets on three Kashmiri youth who were granted interim bail by a local court.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the police affixed the electronic devices on the directions of the Court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge to ensure constant monitoring and strict surveillance of the individuals\u2019 movements. The youth had been arrested under of the draconian law Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).<\/p>\n

An official described the GPS tracker anklet as a wearable electronic device secured around the ankle, capable of real-time location tracking to enforce compliance with bail conditions. However, legal observers view the measure as excessive and intrusive.<\/p>\n

The individuals subjected to the tracking include Mool Raj, a resident of Malhar; Layiket Ali from tehsil Billawar; and Maqbool, a resident of Kathua district. Police said the devices were installed to continuously monitor and track their activities as mandated by the court.<\/p>\n
