Dispur: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel shot at and injured two Muslim youth in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Assam state.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, two brothers from Assam\u2019s South Salmara\u2013Mankachar district are fighting for their lives after being shot by BSF personnel while fishing in a river.<\/p>\n
According to the victims\u2019 family, Rashidul Islam and his younger brother Rejabul Sk, residents of village Kanaimara 1st Part, had gone to a nearby river to catch fish to arrange food for the holy month of Ramadan.<\/p>\n
While the brothers were engaged in fishing at a spot located more than one and a half kilometers inside Indian territory from the international border with Bangladesh, personnel from the BSF\u2019s OP No 3 under BOP Dipchar opened fire upon them without any warning.<\/p>\n
The firing left both brothers with life-threatening injuries. Rashidul Islam sustained grievous bullet injuries to his abdomen, while Rejabul Sk. suffered a critical gunshot injury to his head.<\/p>\n
Both victims were critically admitted for treatment at Gate Hospital in Guwahati.<\/p>\n
According to a complaint filed by the human rights organization Banglar Manabadhikar Suraksha Mancha (MASUM), the BSF personnel fled the spot immediately after the shooting.<\/p>\n
The rights group further said that the BSF made no effort to arrange medical assistance for the seriously injured civilians and that no illegal items were seized from the victims.<\/p>\n
The family\u2019s attempt to seek justice has been met with significant resistance from local authorities.<\/p>\n
MASUM Secretary and National Convenor of PACTI, Kirity Roy, has formally petitioned the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) regarding the incident.<\/p>\n
The complaint describes the BSF\u2019s actions as a \u201cshocking abandonment of duty\u201d and a blatant violation of fundamental rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution of India.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
