New Delhi: Student activist and former JNU research scholar, Sharjeel Imam, lodged in Tihar Jail since 2020 in connection with the alleged conspiracy behind the Northeast Delhi anti-Muslim riots, has been granted an interim bail by a Delhi court on humanitarian grounds for 10 days, subject to certain restrictions.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the sessions court granted the activist relief from March 20 to March 30, allowing Imam to attend his brother\u2019s wedding, meet his ailing mother, and celebrate Eid with his family. While the defence had requested a six-week relief, the court limited it to 10 days.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe interim bail is being granted only for the purpose of attending the wedding and related family needs,\u201d the court said, ordering Imam to surrender after the period ends. The court also instructed him to refrain from speaking to the media during the bail period.<\/p>\n

Imam faces charges linked to alleged inflammatory speeches during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in 2020.<\/p>\n
