Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has strongly denounced an Indian court ruling sentencing Syeda Aasiya Andrabi and two other Kashmiri women activists to life imprisonment, terming the decision politically motivated and aimed at silencing dissent.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the DFP in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the sentences awarded to Aasiya Andrabi, Nahida Nasreen and Fehmida Sofi reflect a systematic attempt to suppress voices resisting Indian rule in the territory.<\/p>\n
DFP spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal said the judgment was political in nature and intended to target individuals who refused to follow Indian diktats. He termed the ruling a serious breach of international law and fundamental principles of justice.<\/p>\n
He further stated that the verdict exposes a compromised judicial system that disregards internationally recognized human rights standards, including the right to a fair trial, due process, and protection against arbitrary detention.<\/p>\n
The spokesman maintained that denying the victim women the opportunity to present a proper defense has rendered the entire legal process flawed and unjust. He added that their only \u201ccrime\u201d was participation in a political movement, which he said is a fundamental right under international human rights norms.<\/p>\n
He urged global human rights organizations to take immediate notice of the situation and hold India accountable for using its judiciary as a tool to stifle legitimate political expression in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Kashmiri Women Alert Forum Chairperson Samia Sajid, in a statement, called for the immediate release of all political prisoners, fair and legal proceedings, and an end to human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
