Dispur, March 25 (KMS): Tensions erupted in Kokrajhar district of BJP-ruled Assam state on Wednesday after a Hindu mob attacked Muslim homes, causing significant damage to their property.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the violence was reportedly sparked when suspected cow meat was found in the courtyard of a Hindu household in No. 3 Nayasara village, under the Salakati Police Outpost. Hindu locals alleged the meat was deliberately placed there, accusing the Muslim community without evidence. This quickly escalated into an attack on Muslim homes, with the mob causing widespread damage, chanting anti-Muslim slogans, and demanding arrests.<\/p>\n
The attack occurred in the presence of police, raising concerns about law enforcement’s response. Authorities arrived at the scene and restored order, detaining seven people\u2014four men and three women\u2014for questioning.<\/p>\n
Preliminary reports suggest the beef might have come from a wedding feast at Mafiz Mondal\u2019s nephew\u2019s house, where beef was served. It\u2019s suspected that a stray dog may have carried some of the meat and inadvertently dropped it into the courtyard of Khitish Barman\u2019s house. Police continue to investigate the incident.<\/p>\n
While the situation is said to be under control, tensions remain high, and additional security measures have been put in place to prevent further escalation.<\/p>\n
