New Delhi: Escalating its war frenzy and aggressive military buildup, the Indian government has approved defence projects worth approximately $25 billion.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Reuters reported that the approved projects include the procurement of medium transport aircraft, Russian-made S-400 air defence systems, and unmanned attack aircraft.<\/p>\n
The Indian government said that the Defence Acquisition Council approved the purchase of air defence tracked systems, armour-piercing single-tank ammunition, high-capacity radio relay systems, Dhanush gun systems, and runway independent aerial surveillance systems for the Indian army.<\/p>\n
Proposals for the purchase of medium transport aircraft, long-range S-400 surface-to-air missile systems, unmanned attack aircraft and engine overhaul of Su-30 aircraft for the Indian Air Force were approved.<\/p>\n
In addition, the purchase of heavy-duty air cushion vehicles for the Indian Coast Guard has also been approved, a statement from the Indian Defence Ministry said.<\/p>\n
Separately, the ministry also signed a 4.45 billion rupees ($47 million) contract with Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport to acquire Tunguska air defence missile systems for the army.<\/p>\n
The decision comes on the back of another major approval last month worth $40 billion to purchase more French Rafale fighter jets for the air force and Boeing P-8I reconnaissance aircraft for the navy.<\/p>\n
In all, India has approved 55 proposals worth 6.73 trillion rupees ($71 billion) and signed contracts for another 503 proposals amounting to 2.28 trillion rupees in the fiscal year ending March 31, the statement said, adding that both were the highest in a fiscal year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
