Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, vehicular movement on the vital Srinagar-Jammu Highway, the only surface link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the world, remained suspended on Tuesday after a landslide struck the Mehar area of Ramban district following heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, debris from the landslide blocked the highway, forcing authorities to halt traffic from both sides and leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.<\/p>\n
Officials said continuous rainfall along the highway stretch has triggered landslides and shooting stones at multiple vulnerable locations, significantly worsening road conditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cTraffic has been halted from both sides on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway due to landslides and shooting stones at several locations, along with continuous rainfall across the entire stretch,\u201d Indian police said in an advisory.<\/p>\n
Commuters have been strongly advised to avoid travel on the highway until weather conditions improve and clearance operations are completed.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a major avalanche struck the Tulail area of Gurez in Bandipora district. Officials said that no loss of life or damage to property has been reported so far, while rescue and assessment teams have been deployed to the area.<\/p>\n
The Bandipora\u2013Gurez road also remained closed due to snow accumulation.<\/p>\n
Authorities have issued an avalanche advisory for residents of Gurez and Tulail, warning that avalanches with a low danger level are likely above 2,400 metres in Bandipora district over the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
