Islamabad: Former Convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has strongly condemned the sentence awarded by an Indian court to Kashmiri women leaders and called for its immediate revocation, terming it unjust, inhumane and politically motivated.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, Rehmani reiterated his appeal for the release of detained Kashmiri women, including Syeda Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sofi, stating that the life sentence and long-term imprisonment handed down to them reflect a colonial mindset influenced by Hindutva ideology. He said the verdict ignores humanitarian, legal and ethical considerations, particularly the age, health, and social roles of the convicted women.<\/p>\n
Rehmani pointed out that the three women leaders had no involvement in any criminal or violent activities, yet were subjected to harsh punishment. He questioned the impartiality of the judiciary, asking how individuals with no criminal record could be portrayed as threats to public peace.<\/p>\n
He further said that in a politically charged and ideologically driven environment, state authorities often act with prejudice, but courts are expected to rise above such pressures and deliver justice without fear or favor. However, in this case, he added, the judiciary aligned itself with a revengeful state approach.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the humanitarian dimension, Rehmani expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health conditions of the detained women. He noted that Aasiya Andrabi is confined to a wheelchair in Tihar Jail, while the prolonged incarceration has adversely affected the wellbeing of all three detainees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
