According to Kashmir Media Service, this important decision by France has raised new questions about India’s plans for air sovereignty and technological independence and is being hailed as a major development in defence circles.<\/p>\n

This development comes at a time when India is considering a major deal worth about $36 billion to buy 114 more Rafale jets. According to reports, the sensitive systems of the Rafale aircraft include components over which France has complete control.<\/p>\n

French authorities have decided to retain full control over the Rafale’s advanced radar, data processing unit and Spectra Warfare System software, calling them highly sensitive. Due to the sensitive nature of these systems, the relevant agencies are reluctant to provide source code to any outside party.<\/p>\n

Lack of access to source code means that India will not be able to independently make major technical changes or upgrades to these aircraft as it wishes and will need French approval for the integration of any new weapons or systems.
