New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has declared the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, recenlty passed by the Gujarat Assembly, unconstitutional and announced that it will challenge the legislation in the Gujarat High Court.<\/p>\n

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Board said the bill attempts to impose major social and cultural norms on minority communities, particularly Muslims, which is unacceptable. Senior AIMPLB representatives, speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, said that the Gujarat bill, currently awaiting the Governor\u2019s approval, has raised serious constitutional, legal, and democratic concerns across the country. They said it is fundamentally inconsistent with the Constitution and violates fundamental rights, including freedom, equality, and personal liberty.<\/p>\n

Board spokesperson S.Q.R. Ilyas said the law cannot be considered a genuine Uniform Civil Code, describing the term as misleading and deceptive. He added that the bill is politically motivated and will be challenged in the Gujarat High Court.<\/p>\n

The Gujarat Assembly passed the UCC Bill last week, aiming to establish a uniform legal framework for marriage, divorce, inheritance, and other family matters across all religions. The bill also prohibits polygamy.<\/p>\n

The AIMPLB has previously strongly opposed the UCC law implemented in Uttarakhand, calling it \u201cconstitutionally flawed, legally unworkable, and a fundamental violation of religious freedom and civil rights.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
