Kolkata: A 30-year-old Muslim woman was killed by a Hindutva-affiliated Hindu man in Kolkata after she rejected his advances.<\/p>\n
According to Kashmir Media Service, the accused, identified as Siddhartha Chariwal, allegedly set the woman on fire after she spurned him. Police said the woman later succumbed to her severe burn injuries.<\/p>\n
The accused was arrested following the woman\u2019s dying declaration, in which she named him as the attacker. He allegedly lured the victim to a secluded area in the Maidan on the pretext of a job interview. Once she arrived, an argument reportedly broke out between them. When she resisted his advances, he poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze.<\/p>\n
Passers-by, along with police personnel, rushed the victim to SSKM Hospital, where she was admitted with nearly 90 percent burn injuries. Doctors said she remained in critical condition for two days before succumbing to her injuries on Monday.<\/p>\n
Despite her condition, the victim was able to record a statement naming the accused. \u201cMy daughter had gone for a job interview. Later, we received a call that she had been found badly burnt. At the hospital, she told us everything and named the man who did this,\u201d media reports quoted her mother as saying.<\/p>\n
Family members said that the accused had been pressuring her to marry him for some time and had also lured her with the promise of a job\u2014both of which she had refused.<\/p>\n
The incident has triggered outrage, with several groups condemning the brutality of the crime and demanding swift justice.
